Under Executive Chef Jacob Burton, Stella Culinary is taking over the kitchen and offering hands-on cooking classes, underground dinner parties for the general public and creative custom dining options for families and groups. “Patty and Jeff Baird, owners of The Cedar House, have always been forward thinking in their approach to doing business. With their concept of an active lifestyle hotel centered around outdoor adventure, luxury accommodations and the culinary arts, I saw the opportunity to get in on the ground floor of a destination property that has the vision to offer a cohesive experience,” explains Burton. With the addition of two 80" TVs, as well as 3 preexisting TVs, Bar of America is inevitably THE PLACE to watch a publicized game, event or ceremony in Historic Downtown Truckee. By adding a red carpet, stanchions, lights and some paparazzi they've attracted a classy crowd ready to enjoy the Academy Awards in style. Some attendees dressed like characters from this year's nominated films and others dusted off their old prom dresses and grooms men suits to create a red carpet worthy ensemble. With the help of discounted martinis, manhattans, and champagne everybody was having a good time watching the Oscars and eating some delicious Bar of America cuisine. If you missed out this year... make sure to mark your calendar for the 3rd Annual event next February! TRUCKEE, January 15, 2015 - Iconic Bar of America, in the heart of historic downtown Truckee has reopened its doors after an extensive remodel.
The 5 ½ week renovation brought an update to just about every part of the interior of this over 90 year old building. Yes, that means those comically tiny restrooms, too. New floors, plumbing, electrical, windows, lighting and kitchen equipment are just some of the highlights of the extensive project. The old Bank of America vault was removed in favor of expanded restrooms and kitchen. In the words of one ecstatic guest, the new restrooms are so big and impressive, “you could put a bowling alley in there!” Managing owner, Tom Turner, put an emphasis on retaining the character of Bar of America while improving the safety and utility of the space, “One of the most important things about the remodel – it still looks like Bar of America”, he told us in an interview. Upon entering the old watering hole, you’re bound to feel the same. Manager Amy Norman tells us the biggest compliment the staff keeps hearing is that guests cannot tell what was done… just that everything looks “bigger, brighter and more polished”. The new updates are so seamless and well-done, that long time guests won’t even notice that the beloved stripper pole was removed. Oops, cat’s out of the bag. What hasn’t changed with the remodel is Bar of America’s winning combination of fantastic food, killer drinks and great music. There is just more elbow room to enjoy it now. With this renovation finished and the beautiful new front doors open, downtown Truckee has its cornerstone back and it’s better than ever. -###- Monica Chavez Group Sales Manager at Gar Woods Grill & Pier |
