No one leaves hungry at the Donner PARTY!
Truckee, California: Bar of America located in historic downtown Truckee, CA, is hosting their 2nd Annual Donner PARTY! Proceeds from this spooky and entertaining event will benefit the Truckee-Donner Historical Society. The Donner PARTY will be held on October 27th, 2016 at 6pm.
The evening will feature a lavish and rather “unique” buffet, some bloody drink specials, optional Halloween Costumes, and of course - live music and dancing! The Truckee-Donner Historical Society helped Bar of America research their historical building during an extensive remodel in Nov, 2014. Bar of America will donate proceeds from the Donner PARTY to the Historical Society to thank them and to help preserve Truckee’s legacy.
Tom Ballou, Bar of America’s General Manager said, “The Truckee-Donner Historical Society members brought Truckee’s rich history to life for us. They are extremely generous with their time and resources helping us understand the historic and architectural continuity of our site at Bar of America. We are happy to make this contribution. And we love throwing big fun parties!”
Chan Mortier and Chelsea Waltersheid, who attended last year’s Donner PARTY exclaimed, “Bar of America goes over the top with exciting and energetic events. The food, the music, the costumes…we had a great time!” This event should be no different. Bar of America is encouraging everyone to “come hungry” because you’ve never seen a buffet like they put out! Get your sleep the night before because there will be dancing late into the night.
The Donner PARTY at Bar of America is for adults (21+). It is a benefit for the Truckee Donner Historical Society and will be held on Thursday, October 27 at 6:00pm. Tickets for the event are available at Bar of America or through the Truckee Donner Historical Society in advance for a donation of $25 per person.

“Every dollar we raise for the park goes back into the park,” Knudson said. “Parks down in Sacramento, San Francisco and Marin County have consulted us trying to see what we did to survive. But it takes a lot of time. People won’t, or can’t, work for free, so that’s why our project has happened when others haven’t.”

STELLA RESTAURANT BECOMES STELLA CULINARY
After five years of operation, Stella Restaurant, part of The Cedar House Sport Hotel in Truckee, California, is moving in a new direction. Under Executive Chef Jacob Burton, Stella Culinary is taking over the kitchen and offering hands-on cooking classes, underground dinner parties for the general public and creative custom dining options for families and groups.
“Patty and Jeff Baird, owners of The Cedar House, have always been forward thinking in their approach to doing business. With their concept of an active lifestyle hotel centered around outdoor adventure, luxury accommodations and the culinary arts, I saw the opportunity to get in on the ground floor of a destination property that has the vision to offer a cohesive experience,” explains Burton.
Stella Restaurant has amassed a loyal following, critical acclaim and been featured in many national publications such as Food & Wine and Sunset Magazine. While the restaurant will end its nightly dinner service on April 19, there are many new opportunities to dine at Stella.
“Stella Underground,” an innovative and fun twist on traditional dinners, is Stella’s spin on the pop-up restaurant concept and will be offered several times a month. For example, Ramen Underground, offered from 6 to 8 p.m. on June 5, will feature Chef Jacob’s hand rolled alkaline noodles that were developed over a full year of research and development with a laid back, mutli-course, community style event including vegetarian and vegan options. On July 2, American Classics Re-imagined will be the theme of Stella Underground. In addition, “Create Your Evening” is a custom dining option for families and groups of up to 100 guests who are celebrating special events.
“Whether it’s a hands-on cooking class with Stella Culinary, guided wilderness escape through T3 Adventure, our in house touring company, or simply a carefree weekend exploring Lake Tahoe’s stunning landscape, The Cedar House provides an organic and relaxed setting where life is always an adventure,” shares Patty Baird.
Stella Culinary will host educational programs, ranging from single day courses to weeklong boot camps. In 2012, Chef Burton launched his first culinary boot camp to an established online audience at StellaCulinary.com, an educational website that focuses on the hows and whys of cooking. The boot camp - five days of intensive hands-on training - became an immediate hit. Last year’s event sold out in just 23 hours.
Stella Culinary will launch its upcoming event calendar this spring (see attached).

If you missed out this year... make sure to mark your calendar for the 3rd Annual event next February!
TRUCKEE, January 15, 2015 - Iconic Bar of America, in the heart of historic downtown Truckee has reopened its doors after an extensive remodel.
The 5 ½ week renovation brought an update to just about every part of the interior of this over 90 year old building. Yes, that means those comically tiny restrooms, too. New floors, plumbing, electrical, windows, lighting and kitchen equipment are just some of the highlights of the extensive project. The old Bank of America vault was removed in favor of expanded restrooms and kitchen. In the words of one ecstatic guest, the new restrooms are so big and impressive, “you could put a bowling alley in there!”
Managing owner, Tom Turner, put an emphasis on retaining the character of Bar of America while improving the safety and utility of the space, “One of the most important things about the remodel – it still looks like Bar of America”, he told us in an interview. Upon entering the old watering hole, you’re bound to feel the same. Manager Amy Norman tells us the biggest compliment the staff keeps hearing is that guests cannot tell what was done… just that everything looks “bigger, brighter and more polished”. The new updates are so seamless and well-done, that long time guests won’t even notice that the beloved stripper pole was removed. Oops, cat’s out of the bag.
What hasn’t changed with the remodel is Bar of America’s winning combination of fantastic food, killer drinks and great music. There is just more elbow room to enjoy it now. With this renovation finished and the beautiful new front doors open, downtown Truckee has its cornerstone back and it’s better than ever.
